About Our Church

When one learns the history of Seeds of Faith Ministries (SOF), it is quite apparent that what we see today is something unique in and of itself.  In the early 1990’s, a visionary leader named Mary Ann Sims led a group of dedicated followers within a church organization called the House of God.  Pastor Sims had two main passions within the ministry that God gave her.  One was that she cared for people.  She cared deeply for the people!  She saw individuals not as people, but as souls that needed to be saved and/ or ministered to.  Her other passion was to follow God’s lead based on what is stated in His Word versus what mankind or “conventional wisdom” would dictate.

As a part of the House of God organization, Pastor Sims started a small church in her home in 1994 known as House of God Band # 2.  Her passions drew people to her ministry, and within a year and a half, growth created a need to move into a building.  House of God #2 continued to experience great success and growth.  Truth was preached from the pulpit daily.  This combined with a ministry that addressed the spiritual and natural needs of the members and the community created an environment that encouraged real worship and real service for Christ.  It is during this period that Pastor David Kimbrough, known then as Deacon David Kimbrough, joined with Pastor Sims.  An immediate bond was formed because of the like Spirit that existed between the two of them.

During this time of growth, Pastor Sims communicated her God-given vision to Deacon Kimbrough.  She spoke of a church that serviced the people, a Christian academy that reared and educated the youth in an environment that demonstrated the love of Christ, and a community welcome center that ministered to the needs of the community at large.  Deacon Kimbrough, who is also a visionary, recognized the importance of effective evangelism, identified with Pastor Sims’ vision and pledged 100% of his commitment to seeing it come to pass.

In 1995, both Deacon David Kimbrough and Sister Wanda Kimbrough, his wife, acknowledged a calling into the ministry.  Pastor Sims embraced their calling and immediately put them to work in a leadership capacity.

In April 1997, Pastor Sims suffered a stroke. Five months later, in September 1997, God called Pastor Sims home.  The hierarchy of the church where she served as pastor instructed the flock to close its doors and unite with a sister church within the organization.  But like Joshua and Caleb, Ministers David & Wanda Kimbrough, and a core of eight devoted members said “NO” to man and “YES” to the call of God.  They knew that “obedience is better than sacrifice”. So, in December 1997, David L. Kimbrough began to carry out the call which God had placed on his life, by starting Seeds of Faith Evangelistic Ministries.

The name, Seeds of Faith, was inspired in part from the numerous messages about the importance of "faith" from the late Pastor Sims.  The name also serves as a living memorial to Pastor Sims and the building fund she and Pastor Kimbrough started in an effort to accomplish the vision the Lord had given them.

Before the inception of the ministry, the Lord began to draw a group of soldiers away from traditional mainstream religion calling them to be “more than conquerors through Christ Jesus.”  God carefully chose Pastor K and the nine followers who would carry out the vision.  They helped to lay the foundation for Seeds of Faith Evangelistic Ministries from a congregation that would suffer great personal losses so that the vision would be fulfilled.

Along with the Vision, the Lord gave specific instructions and encouragement, which can be found in the following scriptures:

Habakkuk 2:2,3...Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.  For the Vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Under the dynamic leadership of Pastor K, Seeds of Faith has experienced tremendous growth spiritually, physically, and economically.  It has been said that “the proof is in the pudding” and the Bible says that “you shall know them by their works.”  Some of the notable works include:

  • Opening of Seeds of Faith Christian Academy (SOFCA)
  • Implementation of specialized Family Ministries
  • Creation of the Biblical Counseling Ministry

Pastor K is a leader who develops leaders for the purpose of ministry, and he is relentless in the pursuit of excellence.  Seeds of Faith, as it is today, is the result of a vision followed by faith in action.  The vision has never been about having a large number of members, but has always been about reaching lost souls through the preaching of the gospel of Christ.  We will continue to grow as the Lord allows, and we look forward to your participation in the vision because “the harvest is truly plenteous, but the laborers are few” Matthew 9:37.  We know the power of working together.  The Bible says, “Where one can put one thousand into flight, two can put ten thousand.”  When we work together and are submitted to the power of the Holy Spirit, the sky is the limit.  We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us and we know that this book is not yet completed!  We look forward to your role in the upcoming chapters of the evolution of Seeds of Faith.
